another email to the masses

the day after my last group email the radio therapy appointment came through for mum to be at the marsden tomorrow tuesday 31st. So as previously arranged I toddled off back to colchester, mum came to stay with aunty eileen and we agreed that we'd all meet up tomorrow morning to take mum to the marsden by which point she should be feeling mum recovered from her operation albeit slightly apprehensive aobut the radiotherapy consultation.

however since friday afternoon she's been fading fast and not looking too good and not sounding too good and generally deteriorating at a fast rate - so by saturday evening aunty eileen was concerned enough to call me and we decided I should get back to croydon on sunday morning which I did and after my usual series of false starts I got to eileens sometime shortly after 1pm. mum didn't look particularly great and was heaving and wretching every time she moved about so I tried to call NHS direct but they put me in a queueing system so I called her local surgery who gave me the number for croydoc the out of hours gp service. they said to get her to her own home where a doc would be with her in between 1 and three hours. once she was in the car we decided between us to take her straight to the accident and emergency department which we think now was the right move - once she was there she started bringing up bright orange bile and her temperature had shot up and she was really dehydrated but was feeling terribly cold presumably because she had little fuel in her body having not eaten since the previous lunchtime.

anyway - they reckon she has some sort of infection but don't know what or where so are treating her empirically (sp?) with antibotics intravenously and she is off the sodium chloride drip and on a glucose drip now. she's back on the ward she was in for the op and is even back in the same bay she was on before which is quite funny - and a couple of the old ladies that were admitted a day or two before mum was discharged the other week are still there so when she is up to it she will no doubt catch up on the gossip.

we think that maybe the appointment at the marsden may not go ahead tomorrow and will have to be delayed but i will find out from the doctor this afternoon hopefully.
